Euromonitor experts continue to track notable ingredients and new products in the food and beverage market and pay attention to important trends that influence the industry's future growth. We selected seven popular ingredients from Euromonitor's global new product database (GNPD) and shared cases of their application in products to look into the future and inspire your product development and innovation.
1. Bright and healthy: Dragon fruit - Dragon fruit is native to tropical rainforests in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and other regions. It has the effects of beauty, detoxification, and stomach protection. It contains plant albumin that is generally rare in fruits and vegetables. It can bind with heavy metal ions in the body and be excreted through the excretory system, thereby detoxifying the body.
2. Not just for eye health: Calendula - Calendula also known as Marigold or Golden Marigold, its flowers are edible, and they are rich in the antioxidant lutein that is beneficial for eye health. In addition, Calendula has anti-inflammatory effects, and therefore has the potential to improve skin health.
3. From the outside in hydration: Hyaluronic acid - Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that exists in the skin, eyes, and connective tissues around joints. Its main function is to keep water in tissue cells, help maintain the eyes moist, the joints lubricated and the skin looking young.
The GNPD innovation product list shows that dragon fruit ingredients have penetrated many countries in Asia and Europe. The proportion of the Chinese market is the largest and is increasing year by year. The most common product type in the new products containing dragon fruit ingredients launched in the past three years (December 2019-November 2022) is juice drinks, accounting for the largest proportion (15.5%), but relatively niche sub-categories such as pastries and instant noodles also have a certain proportion (2.7%;2.4%).
In the case of calendula, in the past three years, tea has always been the main category in products emphasizing calendula ingredients. The use of calendula in dairy products is on the rise year by year, and the Asian market is generally more advanced in the application of calendula.
It is believed that the popularization of these ingredients in food and beverages will continue to rise and become a new trend in the industry.
